Sound familiar?

Your painting isn't bad.
It's badly composed.

It's not lack of talent. Nobody taught you to see the structure
that holds a painting together. That can be trained — and it's exactly what this course does.

The heart of the method

Notan: the X-ray of your painting

Notan is a Japanese concept: the harmony of dark and light. Reducing an image to two values reveals its skeleton — and if the skeleton is strong, the work holds up from across the room, as a thumbnail, in any palette.

“What Notan defines above all is shape and pattern, not value.”
— Mitch Albala

In this course you'll learn to use it with scissors, paper, acetate and even your phone: before painting objects, we learn to design relationships between shapes.

Process: photograph, grayscale and Notan reduction
THE PROCESS: PHOTO → VALUES → NOTAN

How we train the eye

Stop seeing things.
Start seeing masses.

The same scene, two readings: on the left, what anyone sees; on the right, what a composing artist sees. After this course, that switch lives in your eyes.

Your guide

Gabriela Sánchez

Visual artist and teacher. For years I've helped intuitive artists trust their voice — and support it with structure. This course distills what I teach in my in-person workshops and live classes: Notan, the principles of composition, and color as directed emotion, in a clear method with no jargon.

My promise is simple: when you finish, you'll be able to name every decision in your work — and rescue a painting without repainting the whole thing.

“Composing takes time, too.”

FAQ

What you might be wondering

Do I need to know how to draw or paint “well”?

No. The course is designed for intuitive artists of any level. The exercises use scissors, paper and ink shapes — they train the eye, not technical skill.

How much time do I need?

About 3 hours of video divided into short modules (10–15 minutes), plus the exercises. One module a week or a weekend marathon: you set the pace.

What materials do I need?

Black and white paper, scissors, glue, black ink or acrylic, acetate sheets, masking tape and your phone. For the color part, 2–3 colors in your favorite medium.

Does it work for watercolor / oil / encaustic / mixed media?

Yes. Composition comes before the medium: Notan, visual weight and limited palettes work the same in any technique.

How do I access the course?

After completing your purchase on Hotmart you get instant access to the members area, available on computer, tablet or phone.
